Lions Club District 412B (Malawi and Mozambique) organised a fun and charity Lake Malawi Cruise that fundraised over K2 million in aid of Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) paediatric ward.
This development has pleased Lions Club District 412B fundraising chairperson, Stewart Munthali described this year’s cruise as successful as they managed to beat the target of K2 million they set.

Having fun
Held on October 26 to 27 and attracted over 120 people from across the country, the participants boarded Chilembwe vessel and sailed from Monkey Bay to Cape Maclear via Salima.
“The feedback from our esteemed patrons proves that we can come together and have a lot of fun while supporting a good cause.
“This also shows people are willing to support children at KCH who lack basic necessities and we are happy with the response that we had so far,” Munthali told Malawi News Agency (MANA).
The cruise was held under the theme ‘Helping little ones fight big battles’.
District Governor 412B, Abraham George said the funds raised during the cruise will be used to support patients that suffer from childhood cancer at KCH.
He said some of the money will be used to buy nutritious food for the paediatric ward as well as medical necessities.
“Lions will continue to find innovative ways to involve the wider society in supporting those in need,” he said.

Children’s ward at KCH
Last year’s cruise raised K1.2 million also for KCH’s children’s ward.
The cruise took the patrons on a tourist trail on the crystal waters of Lake Malawi on the first day (Saturday) before hosting a party at Funky Cichlid.
Sunday morning the cruise was dedicated to visiting tourist attractions around Lake Malawi National Park.
The Club’s membership was boosted on this day as it welcomed four new members aboard the ship.
Annually, KCH’s paedriatic cancer ward treats approximately 1,352 patients, with 40 patients and 60-90 every day.
