He earned praise from coach Kalisto Pasuwa, who said: “I am happy for him. Scoring has been a big problem for us, but having him score like that can motivate others and help us get more goals.”

Games he has played since he attained Malawi citizenship status in 2025, include a first international friendly in June which the Flames lost 0-1; 0-1 loss to Botswana in a friendly on March 31 and 0-0 draw with Zambia in another friendly on 28 March.

He first came to Malawi in 2015 from Sahel FC of Niger to join Blue Eagles whom he played for for one season before joining Masters Security in 2016.

He then moved to Mighty Wanderers in 2018 before playing for Silver for one season and returning to the Nomads in 2020.

He then joined Nyasa Big Bullets in 2021 before being taken aboard by Venda FC of South Africa but remaining at the Bullets on loan till 2025 when he joined Venda and now being sold to Costa do Sol.

With the Bullets, Babatunde set a record in the Airtel Top 8 2022 Season 4 when he netted 8 goals in three games to win the Golden Boot —breaking the record of three goals set by Khumbo Ng’ambi in 2017.

That feat won him Player of the Tournament beating his teammate Lanjesi Nkhoma and Silver Strikers’ duo of Stain Davie and Zebron Kalima.

He achieved this after playing in Malawi for five years and he recognised the Player of the Tournament as his first professional award.

The goal scoring record in the Airtel Top 8 remains the all-time to date.
