Following the murder of Lucy Kadzamira in Lilongwe, private security firm, Premier Security has come up with an independent report in which it recommends that residents should take their time in employing domestic workers and should vet with the police to avoid what happened.
The Police investigating the murder of Kadzamira, who was staying alone and it has been established that the first suspect, Arafat Gonani, 21, was Kadzamira’s gardener since August this year.
Premier Security further advises residents to have security services day and night, especially to isolated and elderly people who usually stay alone.
“We have observed that the criminals took advantage of the deceased state of staying alone and age to defeat her.

“It was also not easy to notice the occurrence of the murder because both alleged suspects are from within and could manage to do it in closed secrecy.
“We also recommend that community members should devote their time to frequently visit and communicate with such age groups of people.”
Premier Security gives this advice because the deceased was last seen on Monday October 14 and on Tuesday October 15 her neighbour’s children visited Kadzamira’s home to give her a Mother’s Day gift but nobody responded to their knocking and left the place.
This fresh info presented by Premier Security gives the lead that the murder occurred between October 14 and 15.
Reports are that in the afternoon of October 18 at Nsalu Trading Centre in Lilongwe Police Detective Sub Inspector Chinsanje of Nsalu Police Unit got suspicious when he was offered to be sold a motor vehicle
by Gonani, a Mazda Demio registration number DZ 4606 white in colour.
The report says Gonani, 21, was selling the vehicle through a Mr. Ackim but the police officer got suspicious of the transaction after he failed to explain the ownership of the vehicle.
The officer decided to detain Gonani and after the anti-motor vehicle police unit was informed, it discovered that the vehicle belonged to Kadzamira with Collings Kaliza as her proxy.
The report says after the police officers failed to reach Kadzamira on her mobile phone number they contacted Kaliza, who confirmed that the vehicle belonged to Kadzamira, who stays in Area 47 in Lilongwe.
Kaliza then led the police officers to Kadzamira’s house where they discovered flies on the windows.
Suspicious, the police first contacted Kadzamira’s relatives who arrived to witness the breaking in of the house only to discover that she was dead in a pool of blood.
Gonani is in police custody and will be charged with murder and theft as investigations are on-going net other suspects in the crime.
In preliminary interview, the suspect is reported to have told the Police that he was given the vehicle by the deceased’s grandson to sell on his behalf.
The grandson current whereabouts are not known and he is suspected of fleeing with his grandmother’s cellphone.
Premier Security said the information provided on their report is accurate to the best of their knowledge at the time of writing and is provided in good faith, without prejudice.
