The media forums were held in Dar es Salaam on October 1 and in Zanzibar on October 7, which also included visits to media institutions and the University of Dar es Salaam – Tanzania’s first university.
The OJA delegates were briefed of the establishment, historical development and significant contribution to educating the younger generations of young, whose expertise continue to support Tanzania’s development across various sectors.
The forums were organized by OJA in coordination with Oman’s Embassy in Dar es Salaam and the Consulate General in Zanzibar — with support from Oman’s Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Information and Ministry of Social Development and their Tanzanian counterparts.
They also involved collaboration with partner journalists’ organisations in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar including JOWUTA and the Tanzania Editors’ Forum (TEF).
A significant highlight of the OJA’s tour was the audience with President Hussain Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar, who expressed his pleasure at the forums held.

The forums showcased their expertise, strengthening training and enhancing journalistic coverage of issues important to both the countries.
President Ali Mwinyi praised the deep historical ties between Oman and Zanzibar and emphasised journalists’ role in preserving this heritage to promote opportunities for further cooperation.
The OJA delegation spokesperson and Sultanate of Oman Television’s English News Anchor, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Rubeiey — who is fluent in Arabic, Kiswahili and English languages — commended the close relations fostered by the leadership of both countries.

He told Maravi Express that “the visit strengthened the professional journalistic ties and reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to media cooperation, mutual understanding and lasting friendship”.
Abdullah Al Rubaiey played a vital role during the visit as his responsibilities included participating in advance visits with OJA board members to coordinate preparations for both forums.
He served as director of ceremonies in Arabic, Kiswahili and English and as delegation spokesperson and translator. He also contributed to television reports and interviews.
