In its weather update for tonight and tomorrow, Department of Climate Change & Meteorological Services (DCCMS) alerts the public to expect Chiperoni weather associated with windy, occasionally dusty, cloudy, and chilly conditions — coupled with fog patches, isolated rain and drizzle.

The weather will be influenced by a cool and moist southeasterly airmass and the DCCMS further alerts that Mwera winds are blowing along Lake Malawi and other water bodies starting today, June 29 and are likely to weaken by Thursday, July 3. The DCCMS thus alerts residents along these areas, especially fishers, to “take all necessary precautions to prevent loss of life and property”.
Yesterday morning, the DCCMS alerted that “a strong southeasterly air mass is expected to generate high and potentially dangerous water waves on Lake Malawi and other water bodies [which] may capsize small boats, disrupt lake activities such as fishing, and sailing, and could lead to drowning and loss of life”.

It issued instructions, which are to:
* avoid travelling on lakes, especially in small boats, during this period;
* fishers advised to postpone fishing trips until conditions improve;
* secure boats and equipment near the shoreline to prevent damage;
* report any emergencies to local authorities or disaster response teams; and
* stay alert and follow updates from DCCMS.
