Three men, who are reported to have recently returned from South Africa three months ago where they escaped xenophobic persecution, have been arrested by Mangochi Police in connection to a break-in at a blanket shop within the Township worth K2.7 million.

Mangochi Police Station’s public relations officer, lnspector Amina Tepani Daudi identified the three suspects as Kaisi Jalasi, 34, Watson Mtuwa, 40, and Muhammad James, 24.

She further reports that Mangochi Police have since recovered all the items that were stolen on Monday night, October 19, after the shop owner Shakira Mussah closed and locked the shop at around 17h00.

“However, on the morning of October 20, she was informed that the shop had been broken into,” reports Inspector Daudi. “Upon checking, she discovered that 25 new blankets were missing and immediately reported the matter to Mangochi Police Station.

“Following intensive investigations, a team of detectives swiftly arrested the three suspects within the township. Subsequent searches at their houses led to the recovery of all the stolen blankets.”

Daudi adds that the suspects were also found in possession of various tools suspected to have been used for breaking into buildings, which were concealed in a small bag.

“The suspects will answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein once investigations are completed,” says the Mangochi Police publicist.

Jalasi hails from Kwisimba Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Katuli, while Mtuwa and James are both from M’baluku Village, T/A Chowe, in Mangochi District.
