Leaders Songwe Border United’s Dickson Mwangonde, FOMO FC’s Sebastian Chinsomba, and Ntaja United’s Hussein Sanudi lead the race for the Golden Boot of NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) 2026 with 8 goals apiece.

They are followed by two with 6 goals apiece — Songwe Border’s Emmanuel Munthali and Namitete Zitha’s Alexander Cosmas.

Emmanuel Munthali has been directly involved in 13 goals in 15 matches for Songwe providing 7 assists.

Six have 5 goals each from runners-up Extreme FC’s Slay Anthony; Changalume Barracks’ Ackim Mponda; Mzuzu City Hammers’ Phillip Mtika; and three from Chilobwe United, Madalitso Hadge, Steven Jafali, and Madalitso Chinsomba — who achieved it in six appearances.

Meanwhile, despite Songwe Border United leading the log table with five points ahead of Matchweek 16, the race for the NBS Bank NDL title and promotion to the FDH Bank Premiership is still wide open with seven matches left to conclude the 2026/27 season.

Songwe Border lead with 32 points, five ahead of runners-up Extreme FC, who have 27 but with a game in hand.

In the event Songwe would win all seven remaining assignments, the maximum points they will accumulate would be 53 while Extreme’s would be 51.

Thus Songwe cannot afford to drop any point as they face Embangweni United on Sunday, November 1 at Karonga Stadium.

At this stage, Embangweni should be primarily focused to earn promotion into the FDH Bank Premiership as they are on 5th place with 24 points.

The maximum they can amass after seven wins would be 45 points, the same that 4th-placed FOMO FC can earn, whom Embangweni share 24 points with.

That makes Saturday’s match all there to fight for as both cannot afford to drop any point at this crucial stage.

The runners-up Extreme would be away at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday November 7 to meet 3rd-placed Mzuzu City Hammers, who have 26 points.

Since they also eye promotion, the maximum points that the Hammers would end up with if winning all remaining assignment is 47 — and equally their assignment on November 7 is a game to watch.

Extreme FC have a game in hand after their assignment against Changalume Barracks was postponed on October 12 following the passing of their player, Junior Banda, who died on October 10.

In the middle pack, basically to fight for ranking in remaining in the league, are Chilobwe United on 6th and Namitete Zitha on 7th (sharing 22 points) and Ntaja United on the cutting off point for relegation with 20 points.

These three also cannot afford to drop any point at this stage as Chilobwe United date rock bottom of the table Changalume Barracks (4 points) on November 7 at Zomba Stadium.

Namitete will be up against unpredictable 10th-placed Mighty Tigers at home Aubrey Dimba Stadium on November 8.

Ntaja United are closely looking over their shoulders since behind them are Ndirande Stars, who are 9th with 18 points.

And interestingly, the two are meeting this Sunday, with Ntaja being at home at Vision Stadium in Machinga.

Languishing on 11th place with 9 points, Bangwe All Stars are facing FOMO United on Saturday, October 31 at Mulanje Park, where the hosts have earned enjoyed supremacy in past weeks.
