In its endeavour to improve early childhood education — in recognition that education is one of the most powerful drivers of economic growth and social transformation — Standard Bank has invested K6.2 million towards refurbishment of Moyale Barracks Nursery School in Mzuzu.

At the sealing of the partnership with the Malawi Defense Force (MDF), Standard Bank Mzuzu Branch Manager, Joseph Manjolo, said the support aims to help transform the learning environment for 120 children from ages 1.5 to 6 years, improve school attendance, and contribute to better learning outcomes.
“The refurbishment includes painting, seating for children and learning materials providing children with a brighter, safer, and more stimulating environment where they can learn, play, and develop with confidence,” he said.
“By improving these facilities, we are not only enhancing their daily learning experience but also giving them a stronger foundation during the most critical years of their development.”
Manjolo added that Standard Bank has various corporate social investment programmes that invest in early childhood education up to tertiary level of the education journey.

In his vote of thanks, Moyale Barracks Second in Command, Major Zacheus Banda, profoundly applauded Standard Bank for maintaining funding to the MDF through various interventions, including education.
“The MDF is proud of our long-term partnership with the bank,” he said. “Standard Bank’s support to our education sector reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the partnership with us, and as Moyale Barracks, we are very grateful.”
The Moyale kindergarten’s caretaker, Thandiwe Ngalonde described the investment as timely, saying it will significantly improve the quality of education offered at the facility.
“This donation gives us a big boost in our concerted efforts to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for our children,” she said.
