Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira, who was sent on suspension after the Nomads lost 1-2 to Ekhaya in Airtel Top 8 final on August 31, before being reinstated this week, led his team to a crucial 1-0 win over Silver Strikers this Saturday afternoon.

Played at Silver Stadium, the lone goal was scored by Clement Nyondo in the 32nd minute, to temporarily take lead of the log table with 32 points.

This is ahead of the now 2nd-placed Blue Eagles, who have 31 points and are at Mpira Stadium tomorrow to be hosted by 3rd-placed Nyasa Big Bullets, who have 30 points.

A win by either of the two teams tomorrow will see them take the pole position but a draw will see Wanderers and Blue Eagles being separated by goal difference.

Bob Mpinganjira

Bob Mpinganjira, whom Wanderers sent for a high level coaching course in the UK ahead of the 2026/27 season, was sent on suspension after recording 8 wins, 5 draws and one loss.

He was suspended ahead of crucial two legs of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League against Tanzanian side, Simba.

Under his assistant coach, McDonald Mtetemera, the Nomads lost 0-1 at home Bingu National Stadium before being thrashed 1-6 at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam — 1-7 on aggregate.

They then went on to lose to Blue Eagles 0-2 in their last match of the 1st round, to move from 2nd position to 3rd.

In a statement reinstating him, the club’s Board secretary, Chancy Gondwe, indicated that this followed a thorough review of the technical setup.

Meanwhile, goals from Allen Chihana in the 18th and Alick Lungu in 90+3 at Mpira Stadium saw Ekhaya beat former league champions Kamuzu Barracks 2-0, to also temporarily move from 11th place to 7th with 21 points.

They share LUANAR Mitundu on 8th, Moyale on 9th and Red Lions on 10th. Moyale will play Creck Sporting tomorrow while LUANAR Mitundu and Res Lions drew 1-1 today.

Played at Dedza Stadium, LUANAR Mitundu equalised in the 56th minute Leo Kachikho after Red Lions took the lead in the 41st through Safton Chintokoma.

This was an interesting game in that LUANAR Mitundu and Red Lions both joined the FDH Bank Premiership from the 2nd-tier NBS Bank National Division League (NDL).

The Lions of Zomba emerged champions while Mitundu were runners up and in the first round on May 23, the military side won 1-0 at Zomba Stadium.

At Karonga Stadium, Chitipa United beat MAFCO 2-0 with a brace from Zenga Manda in 6th and 83rd to temporarily move from 7th to 5th with 24 points.

They have displaced Masters FC, who have 22 points and are meeting Dedza Dynamos tomorrow at Dedza Stadium.

Karonga United, who are on the cutting off point of the relegation zone with 14 points, are hosting 11th-placed Civil Service United (20pts) at Karonga Stadium.
