They have beaten fellow relegation-based side Bangwe All Stars 2-1 to amass 14 points while maintaining their 10th place on the log table.
They have, however, opened an 8-point gap ahead of Bangwe All Stars, who are 11th with 6 points and have reduced to one point behind Ndirande Stars, who are also in the relegation zone on 9th.
Ndirande Stars are meeting 6th-placed Namitete Zitha on Sunday at Aubrey Dimba Stadium.
At Mpira Stadium, Mighty Tigers started out strong and forced Bangwe All Stars to gift them the lead in the 15th minute through when Mathews Master put the ball into his own net after a dangerous cross from Madalitso Kelva.
They kept dominating the proceedings with some good football in which they missed a clear one-on-one chance to rest the scores leading 1-0 at halftime.
Three minutes after resumption, Bangwe All Stars equalised through Lyson Nkhoma assisted by Prince Chalera.
Then in the 89th minute, Mwai Banda scored the match-winning goal assisted by Yamikani Thole, who earned the Man of the Match award.

Bangwe, who participated in the inaugural NBS Bank NDL finishing 7th, have a huge uphill task to extricate themselves from the relegation zone as they have just 6 points from one win and three draws.
Action continues tomorrow with the headline fixture being that between runaway leaders, Songwe Border United and 3rd-placed Mzuzu City Hammers at Rumphi Stadium.
Songwe Border have 31 points, a five-point lead over runners-up Extreme FC who have 26 points and are meeting rock bottom of the table Changalume Barracks on Sunday at Zomba Stadium.
Changalume Barracks have not won a match but drew four in their debut appearance in the 2nd tier national league.
On 4th place are Embangweni United with 23 points, who are at Ntaja Vision Stadium tomorrow for a date with 8th-placed Ntaja United, who have 16 points.
FOMO FC, on 7th with 18 points, are at home, Mulanje Park on Sunday, where they prove tough to beat and this time hosting 5th-placed Chilobwe United, who have 19 points.
