In mourning the passing of Deputy Minister of Local Government, Culture & Unity, Joyce Chitsulo, President Lazarus Chakwera has described Member of Parliament for Mwanza West Constituency as a patriotic and courageous leader whose motto was “development over politics”.

In a statement released from State House soon after news of Chitsulo’s sudden death, Chakwera and the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera expressed their deep sorrow as they recall late Chitsulos famous quote; ‘Sitidya Ndale Koma Chitukuko’ (we don’t eat politics but development) — highlighting her unwavering commitment to national progress.
“She lived every minute of her political life in pursuit of the clarion call that we all need to adopt,” said the President in the statement. “It is tragic that such a patriotic and courageous citizen has departed at such a time of our national development.

“May her legacy ignite in us the desire to work for the good of our great country, regardless of our political, religious regional and tribal differences.May we be united as one people as we mourn the passing of this great daughter of Malawi.
According to Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Chitsulo collapsed at her house this morning and was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Late Joyce Chitsulo was known for her bold stance on national unity and local development and her passing leaves a significant void in Malawi’s political and developmental efforts.
