Played at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon, Nyasa Bullets have stopped Ekhaya FC from claiming another big scalp in their debut appearance of the top flight league and from the former reserve side coach Enos Chatama to triumph in his quest to make the Cowboys claim a status of giant killers.

The debutantes opened their campaign by beating seasoned TNM Super League sides Mighty Tigers (2-0); Civil Service United (1-0); Karonga United (2-0); Mzuzu City Hammers (3-1) — and drawing 0-0 with Blue Eagles and 0-0 with Dedza Dynamos.

And coming hot on the heels of hammering Mzuzu City Hammers two weeks ago and drawing 0-0 with Dedza Dynamos last Saturday, the Cowboys’ coach Chatama played down over the clash against the giants preferring to dwell on their current form — saying they are fulfilling their ambition to make their mark in the elite league — and stay put in it going forward.

According to bullet updates of both sides’ Facebook accounts, the Bullets enjoyed a steady start claiming superiors ball possession and in the 17 the referee stepped in twice to defuse player altercations with one of them saw  Babatunde picking up a yellow card.

Looking to improve coach Chatama made an early change in the 20th an early change, bringing in Vincent Salawira for Safton Chintokoma — which galvanised his charges to push the play up the pitch.

Bullets coach Peter Mponda also picked up a yellow card for his aggressive disagreement with the referee.

After Babatunde took the Bullets into the lead, goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu pulled off a brilliant save in the 59th to deny Ekhaya’s Stanley Billiat a goal from a freekick.

The Bullets kept being in command of the match, with Ekhaya barely touching the ball as they made effortless passing reducing their opponents to mere spectators.

The Bullets have maintained their lead of the TNM Super League at 27 points — one ahead of runners-up Mighty Wanderers, who beat Songwe United 2-0 through  goals from Wisdom Mpinganjira (55’) and Blessings Mwalilino (79’).

Defending champions, Silver Strikers have moved from 6th place to 4th after beating Creck Sporting Club 2-1 through Uchizi Vunga (14) and Binwell Katinji (66’) — with the host team earning their consolation from Nickson Mwase’s own goal in the 60th.
