Mzuzu City Hammers scored late in the 86th minute to beat Bangwe All 1-0 in midweek assignment played at Mpira Stadium yesterday and reduced their points gap against 2nd-placed Extreme on NBS Bank NDL log table.

However, the status may change after Sunday’s Matchweek 13 assignment between Extreme FC and 6th-placed Namitete Zitha to be played at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji
It was a tight contest at Mpira Stadium this Wednesday afternoon that took up to the 86th for the Mzuzu Hammers to break Bangwe All Stars through Maxwell Funsani, assisted by Alex Msiska.
Bangwe stay rooted on the relegation zone’s 11th place with 6 points earned from one win and three draws while Mzuzu Hammers have amassed 24 points.
They are separated by a point against the runners-up, who have 25 ahead of their Sunday assignment against Namitete Zitha.
Meanwhile, Matchweek 13 assignments were spread out for the midweek up to Sunday and the next match is this afternoon at the same Mpira Stadium between Ndirande Stars and FOMO FC.
FOMO and Ndirande Stars share 15 points apiece and separated by goal difference on 8th and 9th place respectively, with Ndirande being on the cut off point for the relegation zone.
Chilobwe, who beat Bangwe All Stars 1-0 in what was also an NDL derby at Mpira Stadium, are 5th on the log table with 18 points, sharing with 7th-placed Namitete United.
Ndirande drew 1-1 with Mighty Tigers last weekend, while FOMO head into the match are in exhilarating mood having beaten runners-up Extreme 4-1.
This it will be an interesting encounter as FOMO will eye to maintain their momentum while Ndirande will be eyeing nothing short of pushing away from the relegation zone cut off point.
On Saturday, log table leaders Songwe Border, who opened a 3-point lead after beating rock bottom of the table Changalume Barracks 2-1 last Saturday, will host Ntaja United Karonga Stadium.
Songwe, who have 28 points, will need to tread carefully against Ntaja, who managed to draw 0-0 with Mzuzu City Hammers to maintain their 7th place with 16 points.
At Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday, 4th-placed Embangweni United with 20 points will host Changalume Barracks, who have 4 points from four draws.
They are two points behind Bangwe All Stars on 11th; and six behind Mighty Tigers on 10th in the relegation zone.
Mighty Tigers amassed 10 points on Sunday when they drew 1-1 with Ndirande Stars and they are back at their home venue on Sunday, this time as visitors against Chilobwe United — as an NDL Blantyre derby.
