Coach Enos Chatama, expert at nurturing junior football stars, has named a 39-member provisional squad for Malawi U17 boys national team for preparations of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON)-COSAFA qualifiers to take place from December 4-13 in Maputo, Mozambique.
Ndirande’s Nyambadwe United has contributed four players with three each from three academies, Ascent Academy, Zampira Academy, Play Football Malawi.
According to Fam.mw, the squad is expected to go into camp training at Mpira Village in Blantyre this Sunday evening with preparations for the tournament set to start on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The 12 teams that will take part in this year’s competition were placed in three groups of four each with Malawi in Group A alongside hosts Mozambique, Lesotho and Angola.
Group leaders and best runner-up will advance to the competition’s semifinals with the two finalists representing COSAFA at the continental finals which will take place in Côte d’Ivoire next year.
During their last show in 2022, the junior Flames failed to qualify for the continental final after losing 1-5 to South Africa in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Ascent Soccer has contributed six to coach Linda Kasenda’s 34-member provisional squad to prepare for this year’s COSAFA U17 Girls’ Championship to be played alongside the boys U17 AfCON-COSAFA 2025 qualifiers on the same dates in Maputo.
Ascent Soccer, who have always contributed finest players to national teams, has defender Talandira Chinyamvula; midfielders Victoria Mkwala, Elepha Chimbeta & Ethel Tambala and Mayamiko Mkandawire and Fatima Lali.
FAM’s Luwinga Academy has five — goalkeeper Dorothy Manda; midfielders Rabecca Banda, Chisomo Mtelera & Mercy Banda and striker Tamandani Chilimba and a further five from Mighty Wanderers Queens — goalkeeper Esther Maulidi; defenders Nema Banda & Chikondi Benjamin; midfielders Grace Khunga & Faluna Umali and striker Rejoice Silungwe.
