Songwe, who have 13 points from four wins and one draw, remain unbeaten and opened a three-point lead last week with Embangweni United, who are occupying the runners-up spot with 10 points.

On 3rd position are Extreme FC with 9 points while Ndirande Stars are 4th with 8 points — five away from the leaders they are meeting on Saturday.

On its Club Media, Songwe Border United have fired warning shots at Ndirande, saying: “One thing for sure, the Ndenga boys don’t travel for sightseeing — we travel for points. Ndirande Stars, see you on matchday.”

Ndirande Stars’ 8 points were earned from two wins, two draws and one loss and breathing down their necks on 5th place are Ntaja United, whom they share 8 points.

Ntaja are also on the road to face 9th-placed Mighty Tigers at Mpira Stadium. Coming from the top flight football where they were demoted from, the Tigers have found the 2nd tier to be equally competitive as they have earned 5 points from a win, two draws and two losses.

Race for the Golden Boot has picked up pace

Sunday will also present another defining result between runners-up Embangweni United and 3rd-placed Extreme FC to be played at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji where the hosts dictate the proceedings as home.

Sixth-placed with 7 points are FOMO FC, who host Changalume Barracks at Mulanje Park on Sunday. Changalume, who are new contestants for Season 2, are at the rock bottom of the 12-team log table with just 2 points from two draws.

FOMO, who are also unbeaten along with Songwe Border, share 7 points with Mzuzu City Hammers (7th), whose Matchweek 5 assignment has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 against Chilobwe United to be played at Mpira Stadium.

Chilobwe are 8th with 5 points, from one win and two draws, and share points with Mighty Tigers but separated by goal difference.

Matchweek 5 campaign opens on Friday when 11th-placed Bangwe All Stars will host Namitete Zitha (10th) at Mpira Stadium. Namitete have 4 points while Bangwe have two as both will be focusing themselves to fight out of the relegation zone.

Thus all Matchweek 5 assignments are defining moments in the race for the title; qualification into the FDH Bank Premiership for three teams and to escape relegation for four teams with 6 matches to wrap up the first round.
