Taher Abedi is a seasoned journalist from Hyderabad with an illustrious career spanning more than three and a half decades across print, electronic, and digital media.

He began his journey with India’s then largest media conglomerate, ETV Network, where he worked for seven years, honing his reporting, storytelling, and editorial skills. He later joined the world’s largest English daily, The Times of India, contributing for two years to its rich tradition of incisive journalism.

Expanding his professional horizons, Abedi served with the prestigious National Geographic Channel as a coordinator and producer, bringing his narrative craftsmanship to globally recognised documentary storytelling.

His bylines have appeared extensively in leading English and Urdu dailies, reflecting his versatility and command over diverse subjects. With a deep interest in legal reportage, he worked as a law reporter for CDJ Law Journal and lawetalnews.com, covering significant cases, petitions, policy developments, and court proceedings for nearly three years.

In 2013, driven by a passion to create a dedicated platform for judicial and legal journalism, he founded his own fortnightly English magazine, Judicial Quest, along with its digital extension, www.judicialquest.com. The platform has since become a respected repository of legal reporting, featuring news on judicial appointments, transfers, landmark petitions, and judgments from all 25 High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.

With his wide experience, unwavering commitment to factual reporting which is a rarity these days, and deep engagement with India’s legal landscape, Syed Ali Taher Abedi stands as a distinguished voice in contemporary Indian judicial journalism.

The international award comes at a time in trying circumstances when the Indian mainstream media has shown a pronounced slant and bias towards the right-wing Narendra Modi government.

Many upright and bold journalists are haunted and jailed by the Central and State Governments, which violate human rights and the rights of the minorities with bizarre impunity.

Speaking to Maravi Express, Syed Ali Taher Abedi expressed his immense joy on receiving the prestigious international award. He expressed his resolve to continue working without fear or favour with fair and unbiased reporting on judicial matters concerning the common man.

The learned and soft-spoken journalist Taher Abedi shines on the journalistic horizon internationally to bring laurels to beloved India.
