NBS Bank NDL Golden Boot winner Raheem Mtondera powers Mitundu Baptist into TNM Super League

The TNM Super League 2026 should expect to contend with new entrants that include Mitundu Baptist, who have earned their promotion in the elite league from the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL).

Amongst those players is the NBS Bank NDL Golden Boot winner Raheem Mtondera, who was on fire on Sunday afternoon when he scored five goals as Mitundu Baptist thrashed relegated Jenda United 6-0 to earn promotion into the TNM Super League in style.

Mitundu join Red Lions into the elite league, who beat Chilumba Barracks 2-1 to condemn the military side to be demoted to the Northern Region Football League. 

Red Lions have 46 points with one match left to play, which is 7 points ahead of 2nd-placed Baka City at 39, who will be confirmed as runners-up if they win their final match.

On 3rd place are Mitundu with 38 points and need to win their final match while praying that Baka lose or draw to take the runners-up slot.

Mtondera, who now have an a total of 24 goals to his name, opened the floodgates as early as the 4th minute from the penalty spot for his 20th goal

The top scorer then provided an excellent assist for Josophat Kwalira to make it 2-0 five minutes later before taking full charge to claim his brace in the 20th; the hat-trick in the 54th and the final nail on Jenda’s coffin in the 67th.

They can now focus on how to make a good impression in the Super League by winning their final game to boost their confidence.

At Balaka Stadium, it just took two minutes for Red Lions to take the lead through Kaliwo Harawa before Chilumba Barracks equalised through Matorino Clement in the 29th.

Eleven minutes in the second half, Red Lions earned a penalty after Calisto Kaliwo was brought down in the box Zikhole Ngulube scored what was the winning goal and the exit door for Chilumba.

Chilumba only won four games, drew eight and lost nine while Jenda have 5 points from a single win and two draws and losing 18.

FOMO FC have moved to 4th position from 5th after beating Bangwe All Stars 2-0 at Mulanje Park. These two teams are the immediate past TNM Super League participants.

The hosts took the lead in the 22th through Mike Banda’s strike from a well executed corner kick from Lucky Nyondo and increased the lead in the 67 through Prince Kajorevwa to earn 33 points, sharing with Namitete Stars but separated by goal difference.

Namitete Stars were thus displaced to 5th having been drawn 2-2 with relegation threaten Mchinji Villa who are on 10th place.

Mchinji Villa went into the lead in the 20th through Jafali John before Namitete Zitha equalised in the 32nd to for the half time break at 1-1.

In the 81st Mchinji Villa were awarded a penalty when Jafali John was brought down in the 18-yard box and from the spot, Davie Juwao made no mistake to make 2-1.

Namitete Zitha, however, were not undone as they found the equaliser in the 90th minute through Alexander Cosmas

On Friday, Ntaja United beat Namitete Zitha 2-1 through goals from Kingsley Charles in the 43rd and Lloyd Chilenga in the 77th from the penalty spot. Chintheche managed to equalise in the 49th through Adams Longwe.
