Blantyre-based Chitoliro Heroines FC have expressed confidence ahead of their debut season of the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership, saying they aim to compete and not just participate.

The 2026/27 season officially kicks-off tomorrow at Mpira Stadium where Chitoliro Heroines will open their campaign against inaugural season’s 4th-placed Nyasa Big Bullets Women from 12h00.
The match will follow another between Kukoma Ntopwa Women reigning champions Silver Strikers Ladies from 15h00.
Chitoliro Heroines, who secured promotion into the women’s top flight league as champions of the Southern Region Football Association Women’s League, emphasise that they prepared to compete despite being rookies.
In an interview, technical director, Griffin Spencer expressed confidence that the team are capable of competing not just participating and will stay in the league.
“We have beefed up our squad with six players because we are coming from lower league and we need to change our approach.
“We are not well known but I want to confirm that we want to compete. Football now is changing, so we want to make history,” said Spencer.
Analyst, Anointed Kamsampha describing the elite league as very competitive and advised that being debutants, Chitoliro Heroines need to work on squad depth and player motivation.
“I believe they have assembled a good squad and they are financially prepared to cater for logistics to match other teams in the Premiership,” he said.
He added that the team should adjust as they will be playing against well-established teams such as Ascent Soccer, Silver Strikers Ladies, Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers Queens.
Matchweek 1 continues on Sunday whose headline fixture is an NBM Women’s Premiership derby between runners-up Ascent Soccer and 3rd-placed MDF Lionesses at Ascent.
Civil Service Women, who ended 5th, will host Mighty Wanderers Queens (7th) at Civo Stadium with new entrants, FACT Ladies and Rumphi Sisters dating each other at Nankhaka.—Editing by Duncan Mlanjira; Maravi Express
