Ministry of Health procures 74 ambulances; more expected

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has procured 74 state-of-the-art ambulances and so far the first consignment of 40 arrived two weeks ago and has been distributed to all district and central hospitals in the country.

MoH spokesperson Joshua Malango said the ambulances have been bought with Malawi Government funds from the 2018/19 budget and that they expect to expect more this year as the newly-passed budget has also allocation for ambulances procurement.

Inside the ambulances

“In total, we have received 40 from the supplier but we are expecting the 34 to come soon to also be distributed to the districts and central hospitals.

“These ambulances are well equipped with all needed equipments and it’s first of its kind for government to buy and distribute ambulances with proper medial equipments,” Malango said.

Another special feature is a radio communication system installed in the ambulances that will be used to update the hospital they are going to the current situation of patients on board.
