After beating Bangwe All Stars 2-1 in their campaign to escape relegation from the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) last weekend, Mighty Tigers have lost 1-2 to FOMO this Friday afternoon at home Mpira Stadium.

They are thus rooted on 10th place while FOMO have temporarily moved from 6th position to 4th, displacing Embangweni United, who have their Matchweek assignment on Saturday against 3rd-placed Mzuzu City Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium.

FOMO have accumulated 23 points while Embangweni United have 23 points.

FOMO went into the match having beaten Chilobwe United 1-0 at home Mulanje Park and they took the lead in the 30th McPhen Ndolo, who connected home James Msowoya’s free-kick.

FOMO went for the halftime break leading and 10 minutes after resumption they won a penalty after a Mighty Tigers player handled the ball inside the 18-yard box — which Sebastian Chisomba converted.

Then in the 82nd, Tigers pulled one back which was the eventual consolation goal through Kondwani Langa’s superb long-distance strike.

On Wednesday, Bangwe All Stars, who are wallowing at the bottom of the NBS Bank NDL throughout the 1st round, in which they only managed a single win, managed to beat log table leaders Songwe Border United 2-1 at Mpira Stadium.

An own goal conceded by Songwe under pressure in the 8th minute and the ultimate winner in the 49th have helped Bangwe All Stars accumulate 9 points but still retained their 11th position.

However, they have reduced the gap to five points behind 10th-place Mighty Tigers.

Matchweek 15 spreads out to next week and on Friday, October 23, 6th-placed Namitete Zitha will be at Mpira Stadium to be hosted by Chilobwe United, who are 7th with 19 points.

Then on Sunday, October 25, runners-up with 26 points Extreme FC — whose match against Changalume Barracks was postponed on Sunday following the passing of their player, Junior Banda — are at home Owen Malijani Stadium to host 8th-placed Ntaja United (19 points).

Extreme thus have a game in hand in their quest for the title or being in the top three in their debut appearance in the 2nd-tier league.
