Malawi’s 2018 Africa Chess Amateurs champion, Candidate Master Chiletso Chipanga, is set to hold an engagement ceremony with his sweetheart Beatrice at Aggie’s Garden in Zomba on December 29.
Chipanga said he is a very proud man that Beatrice has entrusted her life to be with him as they prepare for their matrimonial vows set for six months after the December engagement.
“We met at where we both are located at Chinamwali as she used support the chess team that I play for. She happens to be a chess player as well but not active and I intend to make her more passionate to the game.

“We are both based in Zomba where we are entrepreneurs and we are now doing business together,” he said.
2018 was a grand year for the Candidate Master (CM) Chipanga, who was crowned African Chess Amateurs champion in Livingstone, Zambia and closed the year in high spirits having won the Chess Association of Malawi’s National Championship at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
It was really Chipanga’s year, who — after winning the African Amateurs — went on to participate at the World Amateurs in Cagriari, Italy where he finished 6th.
He also performed well at the World Chess Olympiad held in the Eastern European city of Batumi in Georgia that earned him to be voted Malawi’s Chess Player of the Year.
