An angry mob at Mitembo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District have killed a suspected cattle rustler in the wee hours of Saturday, October 26.
A report by Dowa Police public relations officer, Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, indicate that Amon Phiri from Mitembo Village discovered that unknown criminals have opened his cattle kraal and stole one big ox.
Phiri then alerted neighbours and made a follow up and they found the ox being led away from the village by five unknown criminals who abandoned the ox and ran away.
The villagers managed to catch one of the suspects and as they were taking the suspect to Dowa Police, angry neighbors intercepted them and started beating him up before burning him using tyres.
Upon receipt of the case, Dowa Police visited the scene of the crime and retrieved the dead body to Dowa District Hospital to establish the cause of death where after a postmortem was conducted it concluded that death was caused due to hymorrhegic shock secondary to burning.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspects and if arrested they will answer charges of murder, says the police report.
