Andrew Kamkwalala appointed as MEC’s acting Chief Elections Officer

* He was Deputy Chief Elections Officer responsible for finance & administration

* A position he has held since joining MEC on November 1, 2022

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has appointed Deputy Chief Elections Officer, Andrew Kamkwalala to assume the lead role in acting capacity.

This follows the resignation of Andrew Mpesi, who resigned after serving the post from August 22, 2022 to August 21, 2026.

As Deputy Chief Elections Officer, Kamkwalala was responsible for finance & administration — a position he has held since joining MEC on November 1, 2022.

In the statement announcing the appointment, MEC chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja calls upon all stakeholders to accord Kamkwalala “the necessary cooperation and support as he leads the Secretariat during this period whilst the Commission works on modalities of filing the position substantively”.
