Malawi Flames have beaten South Sudan 2-1 this evening at Bingu National Stadium in their campaign for qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) Pamoja 2027.

Babatunde Adepoju opened the lead in the 20th minute, scoring his second international goal with the Flames while Lloyd Njaliwa made it 2-1 in the 64th.
This was after the visitors had equalised two minutes into the second half after controlling the first period to rest the scores at 1-0 at the break.
The Flames applied a lot of pressure right from the first whistle that saw Patrick Mwaungulu’s effort in the 15th minute hitting the post.
Babatunde also came close in the 40th but the South Sudan defender was equal to the task as the Flames pushed for a second goal.
Meanwhile, the Flames have taken the lead of Group B ahead of the encounter between Egypt and Angola to be played from 21h00 in Cairo.
The Flames will next fly to Angola for Matchday 2 in 10 days time before facing Egypt in back-to-back during the November 2026 international window — first travelling to Cairo for Matchday 3 before hosting the Pharaohs in Lilongwe for Matchday 4 within November 9-17.
The Flames will return to action in March 2027 for Matchday 5 against South Sudan and conclude the group campaign with a home match against Angola during Matchday 6 — with both fixtures scheduled between March 22-30, 2027.
