In a statement in celebrating the success of Malawi’s creative industry courtesy of the MTF academy, MultiChoice Malawi announces that the 12-episode series explores themes of love, relationships, identity, and self-discovery in contemporary Malawi.
The series was inspired by the knowledge and practical experience Asante gained through her journey in the film industry, including exposure to productions such as ‘Zuba’, which helped strengthen her understanding of storytelling, production, and the importance of creating relatable African narratives.
Through her participation at MTF academy — along with Chisomo Kawaga in the 2022 Cohort — Asante gained practical filmmaking skills, industry knowledge, and mentorship that have contributed to her growth as a storyteller and producer.

Passionate about creating authentic African narratives, Asante has continued to use her skills to develop content that reflects Malawian experiences and perspectives.
Thus, together with the fellow MTF alumni, they co-founded Nana Films — a creative production company focused on developing locally relevant stories and contributing to the growth of Malawi’s film and television industry.
‘Insecurities’ marks another step in Asante’s journey as she continues to champion Malawian storytelling and demonstrate the potential of locally produced content.
“After gaining valuable knowledge and experience from ‘Zuba’ and my time through the MultiChoice Talent Factory, I felt inspired to collaborate with my fellow MTF alumni in Malawi to bring this story to life,” Asante is quoted in the statement.
“‘Insecurities’ is a celebration of Malawian talent and our ability to create stories that resonate with audiences while contributing to the continued growth of our local film industry.”

“The MultiChoice Talent Factory was created to identify, nurture, and empower emerging storytellers, and seeing graduates like Asante transform their learning into impactful productions is a reflection of the programme’s success.

In Malawi, MultiChoice Malawi indicates that the MTF alumni “continue to make significant contributions across various areas of production, including directing, acting, writing, cinematography, and content creation”.
“Their continued achievements demonstrate the impact of developing local talent and creating opportunities for African stories to be produced and celebrated.

“The premiere of ‘Insecurities’ is another milestone in this journey, showcasing the creativity, passion, and determination of Malawian storytellers who are shaping the future of the country’s film industry.”
