Mighty Wanderers have gone on a strong title defence mode of the Castel Challenge Cup 2026 by thrashing 3rd-tier league side, Extreme FC, 6-0 in the Round of 32 played at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji this Sunday afternoon.

Fresh from clinching the TNM Super League title and aiming to secure a double this season to claim a consecutive Castel Challenge Cup win, the Nomads have set a date against winners between Moyale FC and Bangwe All Stars, who are yet to play.

So far all TNM Super League clubs have won their assignments against lower league sides that saw Civil Service United struggling to beat 3rd-tier’s Prison United at Balaka Stadium when the Zomba-based forced out 0-0 in regulation time before losing 2-4 in post-match penalties.

TNM Super League relegated side, Mighty Tigers saw off relegation-threatened NBS Bank National Division (NDL) side, Chilumba Barracks 4-0 while an all-TNM Super League encounter was won by Blue Eagles, who beat MAFCO FC 1-0 at Champion Stadium through Prius Saka’s 10th minute goal.

Another TNM Super League relegated side, Mzuzu City Hammers were at Rumphi Stadium where they beat 3rd-tier club HomeSweepers 4-2 through brace from Alex Msiska (20’ & 30’) and Jeremiah Kanyika (68’ & 83’) and Hassan Luwembe’s 38th.

HomeSweepers were first to score through Bright Manda in the 15th from the penalty spot and when they were trailing 1-3, they reduced the arrears through Frank Phiri in the 66th  — but they still conceded two more after that.

All Wanderers’ six goals were from individual scorers, with Isaac Kaliati opener in the 10th minute when he curved his shot from inside the box while Blessings Mwalilino made it 2-0 six minutes later when he beat his opponent with incredible pace, got into the box and beat charging Andrew Mtinkhulu to the far post.

There was individual brilliance from Gaddie Chirwa in the 27th when he beat his opponent and unleash a shot resulting into Limbani Kalumba beating his own goalkeeper Mtinkhulu through a deflection.

Eight minutes into the second half, Muhammad Sulumba made it 4-0 through an assist from Gaddie Chirwa, who floated the ball right across the six-yard box that Sulumba pounced on

In the 76th, Adam Wallace claimed the 5th before Promise Kamwendo punished the former TNM Super League side Extreme FC to the extreme level in the 82nd. Kamwendo is also a man from Mchjinji, who added agony upon his natives connecting a cross from Wisdom Mpinganjira.

Wanderers and Extreme FC have faced each other on three occasions — their first encounter a 1-1 draw on December 26, 2019 in a friendly before Extreme FC winning 1-0 in the TNM Super League on June 10, 2023 thanks to Gregory Mwase’s lone strike.

But Wanderers retaliated with a 3-0 thrashing at home on October 1, 2023 with Lawrence Chaziya’s brace and one from Francis Mkonda. The Lali Lubani Road club beat Mzuzu City Hammers 1-0 in the final of the Castel Challenge Cup 2024-25.

Yesterday, Kamuzu Barracks beat Ntaja Rangers 5-1 at Champion Stadium through a hat-trick from Francis Mchema in 11th, 63rd and 83rd and the other two were from Sam Gunda in the 75th and Zinjani Yona in the 88th — with Ntaja Rangers earning their consolation in the 90th through Ausesio Joram.

NBS Bank NDL side, Ntaja United played to a 2-2 draw with Ekhaya FC at home Balaka Stadium but lost 3-4 in post match penalties. Ekhaya scored first in the 20th minute through Moses Banda but Ntaja United equalised 12 minutes later through Brian Kumtambira before taking the lead in the 42nd through Lloyd Chilenga

Ntaja United kept the lead all the way to the 72nd before Clever Chikwata equalised to force the match to the post-match penalties.

At Chitipa Stadium, Lufita United hosted Karonga United and they too troubled a TNM Super League side by forcing a 1-1 draw that went into penalties which they 1-4.

Lufita stunned their visitors by taking the lead in the first minute of the match through Tony Msokwa and defended their lead up to the half hour mark when Godfrey Sibale equalised for Karonga United — but failed to crack Lufita’s resilience for the next hour up to the 90th.

Last weekend, Ndirande Stars eliminated fellow NBS Bank NDL side, Red Lions 5-3 in post-match penalties after playing out 1-1 draw in regulation time — while Chintheche United, who are fighting against relegation in the NBS Bank NDL at 9th place, were beaten 4-1 at home Rumphi Stadium by Shire Wimbe.

Airborne Rangers ousted Nsanje United 4-3 after post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw to book winners of an all-TNM Super League encounter between MAFCO and Blue Eagles.
