In line with its purpose to drive national growth, Standard Bank Plc has contributed K10 million in support of the country’s Constitutional Review Conference that took place from yesterday to today, May 26-27 in Blantyre.

The two-day conference was jointly organised by the Malawi Law Society (MLS) and the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and presenting the contribution, Head of Client Coverage, Ewen Hiwa said Standard Bank’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to support initiatives that promote good governance, democracy, economic reform and national development.
“We are delighted to support the Malawi Law Society and UNIMA for their initiative to create a platform for dialogue on the Constitution in these critical moments,” he said. “We believe that our contribution will help facilitate meaningful discussions and contribute to the country’s progress.”

Hiwa added that Standard Bank’s involvement in this initiative demonstrates its dedication to fostering a stable and prosperous environment for Malawians.

On his part, MLS president Davis Njobvu applauded Standard Bank for responding positively to the Society’s appeal for support, emphasising that the financial package will support the conference’s operational costs, enabling participants to engage in constructive dialogue and providing recommendations for constitutional review.
The conference attracted key stakeholders from the academia, government, civil society, political parties, ICT experts, and international partners.

It aim at exploring and reflect on the impact of the Malawi Constitution on the political, economic and social dynamics of the country — while unpacking emerging challenges in constitutional interpretation and application for all relevant stakeholders.
