Headline fixture for Match Week 18 of the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership, which marks the end of the season of the second tier women’s football, is between champions Silver Strikers Ladies and 3rd-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women at Silver Stadium, where the inaugural winners will receive the crown.

It’s a one last push and one final battle in which the Bullets Women will be fighting to keep their 3rd place, who have 31 points, three ahead of 4th-placed MDF Lionesses (28 points).

The Lionesses are away in Mzuzu to meet relegated hosts Topik Academy at FAM’s Luwinga Football School of Excellence.

The Bullets Women have a goal difference of 14 against MDF Lionesses’ 13, thus they cannot afford to drop all three points as in the event of losing to the champions without scoring more consolation goals — and the Lionesses beating Topik by a large margin — they risk losing the enviable 3rd spot.

The final battle for pride and a place up the ladder also involves 5th-placed Civil Service Women, who tie on 28 points with MDF Lionesses. Civil Women are meeting 6th-placed Kukoma Ntopwa Women at Civo Stadium.

Kukoma Ntopwa have 27 points, one behind Civil Service Women — thus making all matches very interesting for the 3rd to 6th, with the exception of the encounter between 7th-placed Mighty Wanderers, who have 23 points and are hosting relegated MK Academy at Mpira Stadium.

The exception also applies to confirmed runners-up, Ascent Soccer with 38 points, who host relegated Moyale Sisters at Ascent Ground. Ascent will be playing for pride to keep the points difference at seven against Silver Ladies — that is if the champions beat FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women.

Deborah Henry

If used in Sunday, Golden Boot winner Deborah Henry will be working to add her 23 goals to her credentials. She went three consecutive games without scoring before finding the net and an assist when Silver Ladies massacred relegated MK Academy 10-0 on Thursday, John Chilembwe Day.
