Mangochi Police public relations officer (PRO), lnspector Amina Tepani Daudi reports that the impoundment was was a joint traffic enforcement exercise conducted yesterday, January 17, 2026, between 17h00 and 22h00 along all major roads of the Town involving officers from the traffic section, general duties, and Police Mobile Service — led by the Station Officer, Senior Superintendent Clement Mulera.

“Officers were strategically deployed at designated points to ensure compliance with road safety requirements by all road users,” reports lnspector Daudi. “The stated hours are prone to increased traffic violations by motorists and motorcyclists exposing other road users to danger.”

She added that some of the offences committed leading to the impoundment include operating uninsured motor vehicles and motorcycles, lack of road service permits, exceeding carrying capacity, operating unregistered vehicles, driving without a valid licence, overspeeding, and riding motorcycles without crash helmets.

”All offenders will be fined in accordance with the nature of their offences, as provided for under the Road Traffic Act,” says Inspector Daudi in her report. “The operation will continue as part of ongoing efforts to restore sanity on the roads in the district.”

She thus echoes the Police Station’s alert to all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations in order to prevent road accidents and loss of life.
