Debutants Chitoliro Heroines hold NBM Women’s Premiership champions Silver Ladies until 90+5 to lose 2-1

* The hosts took the lead way into the game in the 40th minute and result stayed that way up to the 70th when Chitoliro Heroines equalised

* Then the visitors succumbed in the last minute of the five that the 4th official announced as added time

It took the NBM Women’s Premiership 2025/26 champions, Silver Strikers Ladies, up to the 90+5 minutes to break spirited debutants Chitoliro Heroines and win 2-1 yesterday.

Played at Silver Stadium, the hosts took the lead way into the game in the 40th minute through Carolyne Mathyola assisted by Malawi Scorchers international star, Ireen Khumalo.

The result stayed that way up to the 70th when Rachael Matemba equalised for Chitoliro Heroines following a goalkeeping blunder by the Silver Strikers Ladies goalkeeper.

Then the visitors succumbed in the last minute of the five that the 4th official announced as added time.

Assisted by fellow international, Tionge Phiri, Khumalo was the scorer this time, and from her over performance, she won the Player of the Match.

While Silver Strikers Ladies took the top spot of the log table with 6 points ahead of two more Matchweek assignments this Sunday afternoon.

Nyasa Big Bullets, who won their opening campaign of the NBM Women Premiership Season 2, have 3 points and are playing against Civil Service United away at Civo Stadium.

The Civil Ladies also took off all three points when they thrashed Mighty Wanderers Queens 5-1 in the opening match.

Meanwhile, MDF Lionesses came from a goal behind to beat Kukoma Ntopwa Women at Mpira Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 22 minute through Mary Chindeya scores to put the hosts in the lead but MDF Lionesses equalised in the 39th through international Asimenye Simwaka, who head the ball home from Mary Major’s assist.

Ten minutes after the halftime break, the Lionesses took the lead with Simwaka completing her brace assisted by Kachala.

Asimwenye Simwaka was voted Player of the Match while the MDF Lionesses amassed 4 points following their 1-1 draw with Ascent Soccer last weekend.

Thus the Lionesses share 4 points with Ascent Soccer, who beat debutants Rumphi Sisters 5-1 last Wednesday afternoon at Ascent Ground.

Mighty Wanderers Queens will this Sunday afternoon host debutants, FACT Ladies at Mpira Stadium. FACT Ladies won their first match, beating fellow rookies Rumphi Sisters 1-0.
