In a statement, MultiChoice indicates that this is part of its commitment to celebrating sporting excellence and recognising individuals who inspire the nation, MultiChoice Malawi.

“The gesture is a token of appreciation for the team’s determination, resilience and passion throughout their WAfCON campaign, which captured the imagination of Malawians and created a powerful sense of national pride and unity,” said acting CEO Lunia Msuku Bandawe.

“The achievement of the Scorchers represents more than success on the football pitch. They have shown the country what is possible through determination, teamwork and belief.

“Their journey at WAfCON has inspired Malawians and given the nation another reason to come together and celebrate. As MultiChoice, we are proud to recognise the players for the pride they have brought to Malawi and to play a small part in celebrating their achievement.”

MultiChoice Malawi maintains that the reward also reflects its belief in the power of sport and entertainment to connect people, inspire communities and create moments that bring the nation together.

The entertainment service provider further congratulated the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the technical team and the players for their contribution to the continued development and visibility of women’s football in Malawi.

“MultiChoice Malawi believes that the Scorchers’ success can inspire a new generation of young girls to participate in sport, pursue their ambitions and believe that they too can represent Malawi on the biggest stages.”

MultiChoice joins other corporates who have rewarded the Scorchers, that include National Bank of Malawi (NBM) — the national team’s official sponsors as well as the women’s top flight national league, the NBM Women’s Premiership — who hosted the team to a special breakfast.
