Likaka has since been charged with murder which contravenes section 209 of the Penal Code.
Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Rodrick Maida said the suspect is believed to have been in a love affair with Siyileni, and the two were living together in the deceased’s house.
According to Maida, the incident leading to the death happened at Monkey–Bay Trading Centre in Mangochi.
“We suspect that on 4th February, 2015 at 8 pm both went to drink at a Chibuku Tarven up to 10pm. When they went home the deceased asked the suspect to go to another bar close to their house but the suspect refused,” Maida said.
Maida said the deceased went alone to the proposed drinking joint and returned at about 11pm and upon arrival a quarrel erupted. The deceased was reportedly accusing Likaka of having another love affair.
“A fierce fight erupted and in the course of the brawl the suspect took a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest. She immediately run away .On 5th February, 2015 at 5am a brother to the deceased found the dead body lying on the verandah of his house in a pool of blood,” he added.
Postmortem conducted at Monkey–Bay Community Hospital revealed that death was due to heavy bleeding.
Uzeni hails from Sipelo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo while the deceased came from Msumbi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi.
