Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) diehard Dan Msowoya says one of the reasons why he prefers Frank Mwenefumbo to Enock Chihana is because he sees Mwenefumbo as “a lesser devil” as compared to the latter.
Msowoya was responding to a question by one of the reporters during a press briefing which was held Thursday by AFORD northern region chapter at Chenda Hotel in Mzuzu.
The reporter wanted to know why Msowoya and other party members entrusted Mwenefumbo with the party’s leadership having knowledge of his history of involvement in violent acts in his constituency.
“Well, Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo, just like any other human being, has his own weaknesses, however, we consider him as a man who accepts criticism, a behaviour which lacks in our former party president, Enock Chihana.
“You can imagine that after holding delegates from 8:00am to 2:00 pm waiting to participate in the party’s convention, Chihana went on causing havoc instead of apologizing to the delegates for the delay,” said Msowoya.
Msowoya said people should not blame Mwenefumbo’s faction for siding with him (Mwenefumbo), describing him as a lesser devil.
Msowoya who was elected Publicity Secretary alongside Mwenefumbo as the party’s presidential torch bearer in the 2019 Tripartite Elections, was however quick to say that the party had no problems with Chihana’s membership in the party as long as he respects governing laws of the party.
During the press conference which attracted representatives from Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Mzuzu, Nkhata Bay and Likoma districts, delegates and Northern Region Chairperson for Aford, Peter Mkandawire pledged their total support to Mwenefumbo as the party’s new president.
Frank Mwenefumbo was elected AFORD President by his own faction after the party’s convention fell apart on disagreements of eligible voters about a week ago in Lilongwe.
In response, Enock Chihana who has been the party’s president, reportedly fired Mwenefumbo and Dan Msowoya from the party.-MANA
