With an aim of identifying talents and developing Christian culture among the youth through arts, the Bible Society of Malawi has organized a national youth talent competition dubbed ‘Bible Youth Buzz’ (BYB).
The competition has targeted youths from Blantyre, Zomba, Mzuzu and Lilongwe who are expected to showcase their talents in five categories namely: dancing, music, poetry, drama and scripture recital.
In an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Wednesday, Bible Society of Malawi Youth Project Officer, Wongani Mhango said the competition is expected to start on May 26 and end on September 29, 2018.
“The youth have already started registering and the deadline is May 4. The talent competition will be in phases starting from the City level and winners from the City levels are going to compete on national level in order to identify the overall winners,” said Mhango.
Mhango added that they have only targeted Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Zomba because they want to see how it will fair before taking the initiative to other areas of the country noting that shortage of resources is also a contributing factor for currently not taking the program to districts.
He said only young people from the age of 15 to 25 years old are eligible to enter the competition.
“As Bible Society of Malawi, we want to see young people earn a living through their talents influenced by the Bible,” he said.
Winners of the competition are expected to win various prizes among which are laptops, music and poetry recording deals, trophies, Bible and money just to mention a few.
All eligible participants are requested to visit www.biblesociety-malawi.org to download the registration form or they can get a hard copy form from Bible Society of Malawi offices in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
