The State House has on Tuesday informed the Malawi nation that State President His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika returns into the country on Sunday, October 16th.
In a press release that we have seen, Presidential Press Secretary, Mgeme Kalilani says Mutharika shall arrive at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe at 13:00 hrs.
The Malawi leader left for New York on September 15th where he attended the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and attended various other government business.
On Sunday, October 9, Hon. Malison Ndau, the Government Spokesperson, condemned in very strong terms the behavior of people who were spreading rumors on social media to the effect that the State President was critically ill in the USA. He described them as “baseless, malicious and sickening to say the least” and assured the nation that the President is enjoying very robust health as he continues to carry on his functions and duties whilst in the USA.
Ndau indicated that Malawians would be advised in the next few days regarding the date Mutharika returns home.
The State House’s latest communication has been accompanied by a breath of relief as various news outlets in the country carry the announcement as a headline.
