Celebrated acoustic veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda has finally realized his long cherished dream of going to the United States of America (USA) when he was given a resounding send off by many people at Chileka International Airport on Wednesday June 29, 2010.
The 86 year old musician attracted the attention as soon as he was noticed donning a black suit before boarding a South Africa Airways plane.
He was full of smiles soon after arriving at the airport and to express his happiness he performed an acapella version of his Buffalo Soldier composition.
“I am very excited that my dream has been fulfilled today. When I arrive in America, I will tell everyone that I am here,” said Chalamanda.
Giddes has been accompanied by a team that include Chimwemwe Maloya, Uncle Layi, Edgar Kachere, Davis Njobvu, Amos Mlolowah and Patience Namadingo.
In the US, Chalamanda is expected to visit the US Library of Congress in Washington DC and Indiana where Malawians have lined up many activities to interact with the legend.
