APM Assures Flood Victims in the North of Govt Support

State President of the Republic of Malawi Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured flood victims in the Northern Region that his administration will continue to provide them with all the necessary support to ease the challenges which they are currently going through in their day to day living.
He was speaking at Masasa in Mzuzu where he passed his condolences to the people who lost their relatives and property following flush floods which occurred earlier this year in the Northern Region.
“I mourn with you all. I appreciate the challenges that you went through. I could not come when the accident happened,” he said adding, “But I am glad that the Vice President visited you and that other state agencies have been on the ground giving out the necessary assistance”
Mutharika further said that his office will liaise with the Vice President and the Ministry of Finance to allocate a piece of land for those whose houses were washed away by floods.
“We will look into the idea of finding new pieces of land where our friends can construct new and durable houses,” he said. He also advised the people around Masasa area not to construct houses along the river banks. “We need to be careful with where we build our houses. River banks are dangerous places for accommodation,” he said.
