OBM, CUMO boosts Lives of Peoples with Disabilities with loans

Opportunity Bank of Malawi and CUMO financial institution lately provided loans to peoples with disabilities in Blantyre and Salima as one way to help them run small scale businesses hence uplifting the lives of their families.
Executive Director for Malawi Council for the Handicap (MACOHA) Peter Ngomwa has been quoted as telling Malawi news Agency (Mana) in Malawi’s Capital, Lilongwe that the money was sourced from the money lending institutions to help the people with disabilities to boost their various small scale businesses.
“People with disabilities have been denied loans in many institutions that lend money to people to start or boost already existing businesses.
“As an institution we appealed to people who could help with funds to help people with disabilities start a business so that they are financially independent. I am happy to say that CBM Country Office came to our rescue and we have so far given loans to more than 500 persons with disability and many have so far repaid the loan,” Ngomwa has been quoted as telling mana.
He further said that since the programme was started, most persons with disabilities who have accessed the loans have managed to boost their businesses.
Speaking in a separate interview CBM Senior Programme Coordinator Andrew Kachingwe said the project has shown that people with disabilities can do business just like anyone else if given a boost to run their business.
In Malawi, there are many people with physical disabilities who are running various businesses like weaving, tailoring, carpentry and others but they lack adequate support for them to be able to boost their businesses.
